Maison Margiela
・ Country of Origin: Belgium / France
・ Known For: Deconstructionist design, anonymity, avant-garde aesthetics
Founded in 1988 by Belgian designer Martin Margiela, Maison Margiela is renowned for its radical and conceptual approach to fashion. Margiela, who trained at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, initially worked under Jean Paul Gaultier before launching his own label in Paris. The brand quickly became famous for its deconstructed garments, exposing internal seams and linings to challenge traditional ideas of luxury and craftsmanship. A key part of Margiela's philosophy is anonymity — the designer rarely appeared publicly and the brand focuses entirely on the clothing itself, using minimalistic branding such as blank white labels with four stitches and numeric codes to designate collections. After Margiela stepped down in 2009, John Galliano took over as creative director in 2014, preserving the house's avant-garde legacy while infusing new energy. Today, Maison Margiela continues to push boundaries by blending innovative design with artisanal techniques.
